This simple recipe makes utterly fabulous fluffy, crispy waffles and a delicate sweet-butter flavor. It’s what I use whenever I need a reliable and easy waffle recipe to quickly feed the family or a small gathering.
Waffles are made crispy by adding cornstarch to the batter, then keeping them in the oven (dry and hot) until ready to serve.
Steam from the waffle maker is the culprit with soft or soft waffles, but adding the corn and drying in the oven makes a big difference. Don’t skip the steps!
Starting to finish, a full batch of the fluffiest, crispiest, most tender waffles only requires about 30 minutes to make, and can be easily frozen for your breakfast plan.

How to make waffles fluffy and crunchy
- First, preheat a wafer maker to high heat. Place the oven at 200 degrees F. Place a baking sheet with a rack on it in the oven to hold and heat the waffles. The shelf will make sure the waffles don’t get wet!
- Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk well.
- Then mix in the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until the mixture is very smooth.
- Once the waffle maker is very hot, add about ½ cup hit (for a great Belgium-style waffle), make sure the battery is evenly distributed. Bake for 3 minutes ½ quiet. Check your waffle as the clock goes, and remove the waffle when the exterior is golden-brown.
